Financial and legal records, blueprints and preliminary sketches, manufacturers’ catalogs and advertisements, account books, and clippings relating to the business activities of Geneva, New York boilermaker Alfred Catchpole’s various manufacturing companies; as well as the personal interests and endeavors of Catchpole’s nephew, Franklin Robert Smith.

The Benjamin Clapp papers document business affairs in the coal, grocery, lumber, and produce industries in Salem, Washington County, N.Y., largely from 1863 to 1871. The collection contains business correspondence, financial records, and price lists. Also included are business cards, clippings, and 46 volumes of account books.

Correspondence, manuscripts, printed materials, regarding his professional career and financial accounts pertaining to Ithaca, N.Y. organizations. Additional records include deeds, mortgage and survey (1733-1803) on lands in Albany and Montgomery Counties and newspaper clippings and handwritten notes about the early Ithaca "Moral Society". Newspaper clippings and magazine articles on the need for a college of agriculture in New York State, and on the founding of the New York State College of Agriculture, including statements made about it by Liberty Hyde Bailey. Some of the clippings are contained in a scrapbook. Newspapers and periodicals represented include the Ithaca daily journal, American agriculturist, Cornell alumni news, and Cornell daily sun.

Newspaper clippings concerning the fire and its aftermath, including ensuing evaluations of campus fire safety and efforts to improve it. Cornell Reports, as well as information on the Six-Year PhD program, are included. The collection also contains a program from the memorial service held on April 7, 1967 for those who died in the fire.

The notes document activities surrounding the referendum, including publicity and inviting speakers to an event (including Bill Moyers, to represent the Johnson administration's views).
