Letter from Joseph Brant : to Sir John Johnson Bart.

Scope and content

Letter appears to have been written from a place called Beach. It discusses Brant's arrangements to meet Johnson. The letter also mentions public opinion on General De Puisaye. Brant says he will dispatch two young men to Johnson, and also references a previous letter from Johnson in which Johnson expressed a desire to meet with the Missisaqua [sp] chiefs, probably refering to Mississauga. Also two copies of a transcript, a slide, and a condition note.

Letter from Samuel Hodgdon : respecting wagons loaded with goods for the Cherokee treaty

Letter mentions invoices for the supplies being carried in the wagons for the treaty. Mention of an enclosed letter, not present, to Lieutenant Devin, instructing him to include a small package from Major Cushing with the wagons.

Scope and content Letter written from Fort Belkamo, Texas. Describes crimes committed by Wichita, Waco, and Keechi Indians against residents of Texas, including horse theft. Discusses meeting with Chief Kowaaka [sic] and Major H. H. Sibley to discuss theft. It goes on to describe the imprisonment of the Indians and then their escape, in which the Chief lost his life after killing one of the guards. The Chief also killed his wife and child. Mentions talks with a Comanche Chief Gatumsie [sic] and War Chief...
