Photographs include images of Ohrdruf and Buchenwald immediately after liberation in April 1945, taken by the US Army photographer accompanying General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Allied Commander, who deliberately set out to create a record of the atrocities committed by the Nazis. A second group of photographs includes aerial panoramic images of Monte Cassino and urban areas during the Allied campaign to liberate Italy.
