Manuscript copies of two documents in which Asahel R. Holcomb signs over an interest in his patent for a new method of shingling roofs (called a "hipped" roof), first to Shotwell Powell in 1863, and then to Emory D. Parker in 1878. With these is an 1880 document from the United States Patent Office certifying that these copies are accurate transcripts of the originals.
