Scope and Contents
Subseries 1A contains records relating to the financial administration of the hospital and personnel. Many of the financial documents are accounting ledgers showing debits and credits for accounts such as construction costs, maintenance, food, supplies, services, and contractors. The employment records consist of payrolls that record each payment made to an employee, and lists of employees that record their job title, rate of pay, and dates of employment.
One of these volumes was kept by Thomas C. Taylor, who was the superintendent during the construction of Bloomingdale Asylum between 1818 and 1821. His accounts record costs of construction and subsequent maintenance.
