Content Description

Press photographs of civil unrest, government takeovers, and the like in Bolivia, mainly in the city of La Paz. Most of the photos have captions glued to the back or the front margins. Events documented include the border dispute between Bolivia and Paraguay, December 1928; the overthrow of president Enrique Penaranda, December 1943; an uprising of Inca native people, August 1927; a general strike attended by riots, May 1950; riots in protest of a visit by Adlai Stevenson, President Kennedy's personal representative, June 1961; the overthrow of president Gualberto Villarroel, July 1946; and riots in connection with a miners' strike, May 1965. News agencies responsible for the photographs include the Associated Press, United Press International, International Newsreel, and International News.
