Krum, insurance policies and mortgages, newspaper clippings, photographs and other documents pertaining to the Krum family and Krum's Corners in Ulysses, Tompkins County, New York. The papers of Landon D. Krum and his daughter Amelia A. Krum are most prominently represented across the collection.

Clippings and publications include newspaper articles from The Ithaca Journal relating to or mentioning Krum family members, as well as columns likely written by Amelia A. Krum during her time as the newspaper’s Krums Corner correspondent. Of note are a clipping and photograph with captions noting the Krum Family’s relation to naturalist John Burroughs. Also of note is an advertisement for land sale on Madison Street, Ithaca, with prices realized.

Biographical / Historical

The Krum family is a family of early settlers in Tompkins County, NY and the namesake for the hamlet of Krums Corner in Ulysses, NY.

Landon Dana Krum was born on December 5, 1822, in Caroline, NY. A blacksmith by trade, Krum relocated to Ulysses, NY in 1845. Here, he erected his home, the first building in what would become the hamlet of Krums Corner. Krum had four children with his wife Mary A. Krum (née Mott): Adelbert, Amelia, Herbert, and Lafayette. He died on June 6, 1905, and is buried in Hayts Cemetery in Ithaca, NY.

Amelia Alice Krum, daughter of Landon D. Krum, was born on January 21, 1849. She served as The Ithaca Journal’s Krums Corners correspondent for 52 years until her death on May 28, 1940. She is buried in Hayts Cemetery in Ithaca, NY.
