Scope and content

Personal and professional papers of James R. Kingsley, consisting mainly of correspondence with him and with his brother, Carter R. Kingsley. Also, bonds issued by the Steuben Club, Bath, New York (1894), and receipts for bonds issued by the United States Treasury (1939); receipt written out by George Lincoln Burr for salary payment received from Andrew Dickson White (1887); account book for an A.D. White special fund (January-June 1885); notes on legal cases, written on State of New York Comptroller's Office envelopes; a few legal documents such as witness testimony and a judge's opinion; and photographs of Royal Tiger Mines Company and its surroundings in Colorado (1923).

Biographical / Historical

James R. Kingsley was an attorney for the Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland in New York City and Bath, New York. His brother, Carter Robie Kingsley, was also an attorney in Bath. Andrew Dickson White was the co-founder and first president of Cornell University; George Lincoln Burr was White's personal secretary, a professor of medieval history, and later the librarian of the Andrew Dickson White Library at Cornell University.
