Scope and content
Consists mainly of routine letters, with one patent for 80 acres of land. Letters are signed by George M. Pullman, president of Pullman's Palace Car Company (May 4, 1877); Charles E. Hughes, Governor of New York (November 6, 1908); Representative Henry G. Danforth (39th District, New York), in Washington, D.C. (February 25, 1916); Governor Herbert H. Lehman (May 25, 1933); and Lewis E. Lawes, Warden of Sing Sing Prison, Ossining, New York (August 18, 1933).
Patent is for 80 acres of land purchased in Palestine, Illinois, by William A. Benjamin of Alleghany County, New York (October 10, 1839). President Martin Van Buren's signature on the document appears to have been written by a copyist or secretary.
