Scope and content
Typescript draft and printed reprint of "An algebra of Mendelism and its application to a mixed hybrid population," co-authored by Upton and A.W. Gilbert, published in Proceedings, American Breeders Association, 1912. Manuscript annotations on the draft indicate that (although Gilbert's name is listed first on the printed article) Upton wrote all but the last paragraph. With the draft of the article are about 6 leaves of notes.

A professor of mechanical engineering at Cornell University, Upton was also the author of a paper on plant breeding, interested in ornithology, a collector of reptiles, and a member of a transcontinental entomology expedition in 1917 and a cross-country botanical expedition in 1920.
