Letters to Jesse Segoine
Scope and content
Two letters to Segoine, one from C.A. Seward in Geneva, New York (August 7, 1860), the other from F.W. Seward at Montrose, New York (August 25, 1870). In the first letter, C.A. Seward encourages Segoine to rejoin the military, and discusses what can be done to secure an officer's appointment for him. In the second letter (housed with its envelope), F.W. Seward promises to help Segoine the next time he is in New York.

Jesse Segoine received authority to recruit the 111th New York Volunteers Infantry Regiment in Cayuga and Wayne Counties in the Civil War. It was organized in Auburn, New York, with Segoine as its Colonel.
