Routine short letters from prominent politicians who hailed from New York State, including Washington Hunt, Horatio Seymour, William Henry Seward, and Frederick William Seward. Also, a card signed by F.W. Seward, subscribing for a copy of the book Fifty years among authors, books and publishers, by J.C. Derby.

Scope and content Letter from Frederick William Seward to his friend James Kelly, sent from Washington, D.C., January 12, 1864, thanking Kelly for sending him two cakes in keeping with their annual New Year's custom, and extolling the value of friendship. Also, a letter from Lewis Tappan to Mrs. White, sent from Brooklyn, January 6, 1864, listing the "autographs of distinguished persons" that he is sending to her from his files. Tappan also complains of plans to sell alcoholic beverages and to hold a raffle...

Scope and content

Two letters to Segoine, one from C.A. Seward in Geneva, New York (August 7, 1860), the other from F.W. Seward at Montrose, New York (August 25, 1870). In the first letter, C.A. Seward encourages Segoine to rejoin the military, and discusses what can be done to secure an officer's appointment for him. In the second letter (housed with its envelope), F.W. Seward promises to help Segoine the next time he is in New York.
