Scope and content

Consists mainly of social and business letters written by various people, mainly in central New York State, interspersed with receipts and routine legal contracts. Included are many letters to former Dryden resident Paige Bartholomew from friends and relatives living in central New York and also in Litchfield, Minnesota (1884-1888). Correspondents include Paige's father D. Bartholomew and mother D. A. Bartholomew, his brothers David and Lee Bartholomew, friends Frank N. Wood and Warren P. Laird, cousin O. W. Topping, and other associates including E. B. Summy and Ezra Weaver. Topics include family news, the weather, farm chores, real estate transactions, property development, and business prospects.

Scope and content

Also included is a small account book owned by B.S. Burdick, describing work he did for various customers and payments received (1876-1879); an obituary for Julina M. Cartwright, wife of Cyrus Cartwright, who died in Lincklain (1863); a circular from Dartmouth College Class of 1854, announcing the next Commencement and raising funds; a circular from Cornell University, asking instructors and students to provide information on the cost of room and board in Ithaca, New York (1887); and a priestly ordination certificate filled out in jest for Edward Alexander Byrnes (1919), with the postscript: "Owing to National Prohibition Law, our official stamp of a rum bottle cannot be affixed."
