Scope and content
Includes 29 letters, 1826-1851, 27 of which are to Fitzgerald Frazer, mostly from family members; also 50 letters, 1862-1865, from David E. Ferris to Susie Frazer of Haverstraw, New York, while Ferris was a Union soldier in the Civil War (killed in 1865). Also included are a contract (1781), and a November 6, 1787 copy of a patent belonging to Mrs. Elizabeth Van Dyke, dated July 28, 1688.

Biographical / Historical
The Frazer family immigrated to New York from Limerick, Ireland ca. 1820's. Many of the family's early letters describe the immigration and settlement in the U.S. The letters indicate the family fortune was later decimated by the 1848 famine.
