Scope and content Two manuscript copies of a letter written on February 27, 1863, from Kents Corners, Vermont. Writing on behalf of herself and her husband Abram Holmes, Roxy Holmes describes the illnesses of two of her sons in the Union army. Her son George P. Holmes has camp dysentery, which she believes is due to conditions at Ship Island, Mississippi; her son Clark, stationed near Washington, D.C. with the 11th Vermont Regiment, has an illness affecting his kidneys, liver, heart, and lungs.
