Manuscript letter to a Mrs. Lewis (from Dansville, October 23, 1887), thanking her for her note; and typescript copy of a letter to Professor William Strunk at Cornell (from Hamilton, Bermuda, February 14, 1911), concerning the use of Howells's novel The rise of Silas Lapham in class at Cornell and the students' reaction to it.
