Interviews with students, faculty, and administrators describe the origins of Black Studies (Afro-American Studies) at Cornell and the various issues on campus in the spring of 1969.

Over 100 interviews with students, faculty, staff, and administrators on subjects including the Vietnam War and the peace movement; the rights of women and minorities, especially blacks' rights and the Willard Straight Hall occupation; efforts to change the governing system at Cornell; and related issues. Most of the interviews have been transcribed.

Memoranda, meeting minutes, and typewritten letters concerning the creation of the Afro-American Studies Program at Cornell University. Correspondents include James A. Perkins, W. Keith Kennedy, Benjamin Nichols, Stuart M. Brown, Robert D. Miller, Earl Armstrong, James E. Turner, and others. Also included is a February 1970 issue of Harambee, evidently a local newsletter for the African American community in Ithaca, New York.
