Scope and content The first volume contained two main sequences of British watercolours, initialled by T.H. and H.W.P., originally bound into a portfolio. The first sequence depicts coastal scenes painted and captioned in English by T.H. aboard "The Hindostan" between October 10, 1792 and February 1, 1793. Most are carefully observed sketches of the coasts of Tenerife and Brazil. The last sketch is of the Island of St. Paul, presumably on the homeward voyage back to England.
