Reminiscences entitled "An Autobiographical Study of a Chinese Family" concern the writer's boyhood experiences and attitudes in Soochow, Peiping, and rural China, 1911-1933, emphasizing family traditions, ancient ceremonies and superstitions, and the educational system, written while he was a graduate student at Cornell residing with Professor and Mrs. Dwight Sanderson of Ithaca, New York. Also includes photographs, and a monograph on ichthyology by Shen.
