Scope and content Bound journal of Daniel Claus that documents his stay at Caughnawaga from 1762-1766. There are three typescript copies of the journal by Lillian Doyle, two different versions. The manuscript appears to have been bound out of order. One transcript copy is ordered as the original is ordered the other is ordered as Lillian Doyle thought the pages should be bound, which is chronologically. Includes one page titled "The prophet of the Allegheny," which is a description of meeting Red Jacket. A hymn in Mohawk, signed by Daniel Bread, dated February 13, 1829. Another letter in Mohawk signed by Daniel Bread. Also included is a Cherokee hymn book published by the American Baptist Publication Society, 1896. The items come with a letter explaining their provenance from Mary Benson Mann Adams, the great grand daughter of Joel Benson, dated February 20, 1944.

Letter from Joseph Brant : to Sir John Johnson Bart.

Scope and content

Letter appears to have been written from a place called Beach. It discusses Brant's arrangements to meet Johnson. The letter also mentions public opinion on General De Puisaye. Brant says he will dispatch two young men to Johnson, and also references a previous letter from Johnson in which Johnson expressed a desire to meet with the Missisaqua [sp] chiefs, probably refering to Mississauga. Also two copies of a transcript, a slide, and a condition note.
