Biographical / Historical

Katherine Morley graduated from the Training School of Attendants established at Bloomingdale Hospital in 1895. She was known as Katherine Powers after she married and resided in White Plains.

In 1895, the Bloomingdale Hospital started an experimental Training School for Attendants focused on training nurses and attendants in the care of people with mental disabilities. In October 1898, the Board of Governors of the Society of New York Hospital voted to establish a permanent training school titled the Bloomingdale Hospital School of Nursing. In 1936, the Bloomingdale Hospital School of Nursing discontinued its undergraduate program. Affiliated students from many area nursing schools, however, continued to receive short-term instruction in psychiatric nursing at Bloomingdale Hospital.
