Eduardo Esteves photograph album

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: 37-5-4551

Content Description

Collection consists of a photograph album belonging to Eduardo Esteves, Cornell University Class of 1948. The earliest photographs in the album show Esteves and his family aboard a ship, with several photos at Lake Fairlee and Camp Passumpsic (Vermont) in 1939. Photographs from the early 1940s capture Esteves while attending the Peddie School, a boarding and preparatory school in Highstown, New Jersey which he attended from 1940-1944. Esteves was an athlete at the school; he is pictured in a baseball team photograph and two show him in his track uniform. Other shots at the school include students on the snowy campus, friends posing before prom, and a dormitory identifies as Austen-Colgate Hall. Photographs from 1944-1948 picture Esteves at Cornell University. He and his brother Alberto occasionally appear together in a few photographs. They often pose with or are taking photos of other Puerto Rican students, including Miguel Lugo, Jose Jorge Andreu, Jose Gabriel Rivera, and Martin Hernandez. Also included is a photograph of Barlow Ware. There are photographs of Cornell's campus, including Baker Dormitory and Goldwin Smith Hall, the Arts Quad, and a bird's-eye view labelled "Desde la Torre de la Universidad." The album also contains pictures of Esteves with his family in Puerto Rico, visiting places including Boca de Cangrejos, San Juan de la Maguana, Culebra, and Playa de Pajaros. Some of the pictures memorialize older members of the Esteves family, while several of the later photographs appear to capture Esteves and perhaps his brother Alberto and others hunting and posed with killed game animals in Puerto Rico. Many photographs are annotated by Esteves.
