Scope and content

Correspondence and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings and memorabilia, primarily concerned with Sulzer's political activities. The material relates to Sulzer's campaign for direct primary elections for New York State and his impeachment and subsequent removal from the office of Governor. Includes letters from government officials, organizations, and private citizens giving their views and discussing action taken on these two matters. Also letters concerning such matters as the Governors' Conference, good roads, canal navigation, subway contracts, public institutions, petitions, and recommendations for various bills and resolutions, grievances, and complaints.

Also includes letters to Sulzer from Sun Yat-sen: one from Shangahi, 1916, expressing a desire to have the International Settlement in Shanghai and to institute reforms in city government in China; from Canton, 1918, concerning the current constitutional crisis in China and soliciting Sulzer's support; and a letter from Austin P. Snow, Washington, D.C., 1912, containing a copy of a letter from Sun Yat-sen concerning the recognition of the Chinese Republic.
