Collection contains the scrapbook of Frances S. Murphy, class of 1924. Included are photographs of the audience at Rutgers v. Cornell, 1921 Freshman Banquet at Risley Hall, an all-woman cast dressed in sailor, priest, businessman, infant, and period-typical masculine and feminine attire; ephemera from Lowville Academy (Murphy was elected as “class poet” for her high school commencement), Prudence Risley Hall Library, Women’s Athletic Association, American Red Cross, Women’s Self Government Association, Frigga Fylge “representing the girls in the College of Agriculture,” Home Economics, Halloween, “The Senior Party,” Young Women’s Christian Association of Cornell, the Freshman Class of 1924, Cornell Dramatic Club, Thanksgiving, cigarette copywriting, a page of seals including leather pennant flag seals from Columbia, St. Louis, Princeton, Georgetown, and Syracuse University, Elmira College, Gymnastics, Easter, The Wizard of Oz performed by The Women of the Class of 1924, Risley Hall, sophomore cotillion, the christening of Miss May B. Junior, a “Hygiene” course, Cornell Coffee House, Valentine’s Day, 1921 Freshman Banquet, The Cornell Honor System, menus from The Olympian (Carthage, NY), Schrafft’s Luncheon, Cottage Tea Room, and The Goodie Shop, an issue of parody newspaper Cornell Wrongly Run, a receipt for Murphy’s purchase of her scrapbook annotated “That’s where my money goes,” class songs, “Nugget Nell’s Night Out,” the title of 1921 Spring Day, a pin stating “Roll Up to Round Up,” absence permission slips, checks, swimming classes, a Trouser License that jokingly transfers Murphy her rights “dominate everything and everybody,” Lyceum Theatre, pages from a script of Say It with Step-ins by Hilliard Booth, a show named The Purloined Thumbtack performed by Architecture students for the 50th anniversary of the College, the official program for Dartmouth vs. Cornell 1921, a decayed foil candy wrapped for “Eskimo Pie,” The Cornell Women’s Dramatic Club (including their performance of The Taming of the Shrew), marketing for the Paramount Picture The Sheik, a Kewpie greeting card, The Cornell Masque, the Athletic Conference of the American College Women Eastern Section, a letter from a future Cornell student addressing Murphy as “grandmother,” Cornell vs. Brown Intercollegiate Debate, The Senior Picnic, B.F. Keith’s New Theatre in Syracuse, a sketch of “Risley and vicinity at 10p.m.” featuring Louie’s Lunch truck, a Dry Gin wrapping, a Visitor’s Card from Ithaca Public Schools, 56th Commencement. Murphy used the following section of her scrapbook: A 29-person registry of Murphy’s friends: their “names/nicknames, homes, ambitions/birthday anniversaries, and happy thoughts.”

Frances S. Murphy graduated in 1924 from the College of Architecture at Cornell University. She came to Cornell from Martinsburg, New York after graduating from Lowville Academy.
