Scrapbook of J. Kirby Jones, Cornell University class of 1893. The scrapbook begins with Jones’ New York State Regents examination score card at Chatham Union School and contains various registrations, rosters, directories for the 1889-1890 school year. Ephemera from The Cornell University Christian Association, Cornell Glee and Banjo Clubs, Cornell Society Minstrels, 22nd and 23rd Annual Commencement, Cornell Dramatic Club, math classes, contests between the Freshman (c/o 1894) and Sophomore (c/o 1893) classes (among them, a poster by the sophomore “Hole Committee” regarding class flags, an invalid class election), The Masque, the 1892 Junior Ball, Ithaca Hospital, “Mrs. Mulford’s,” Professor Corson’s Saturday Evening Readings, Declamation and Oratory contests, cotillions, class ribbons of 1893, the opening of the Cornell University Library (Uris Library), Cornell Armory, hand-painted dance cards with attached pencils, a mysterious poem that assures the downtrodden reader “You’ll be sure to find your love supernaturally sweet” dated January 1892, cards excusing Jones from class due to sickness, the Corps of Cadets, Sigma Chi, scholarship appointment, Alpha Phi, Sage College, the inauguration of President Jacob Gould Schurman, examination schedules; letters from Phi Gamma Delta regarding a sophomore reception in Barnes Hall, Florence B. Collins on a hand painted napkin, and Bertha Smith’s acceptance of Jones’ dinner invitation. Jones collected cyanotype photograph prints of Sage Chapel, the construction of The University Library Building (Uris Library), the interior of McGraw Hall, the Cascadilla waterfall and snow-covered gorge, Chi Psi (Fiske-McGraw mansion) and Merope statue inside, the exterior of McGraw and Morrill Hall (including a horse-drawn carriage), Cornell University Boathouse, and a shared office between students.
