Agreement between Marguerite Thibaud and Jean de Badevillain, 1407 June 20 : manuscript
Content Description
Agreement which resolves a dispute over a plot of land in the Poitou region. Marguerite Thibaud, dame de Beiguec, claims that she never recognized that Jean de Badevillain held, by virtue of tribute to her, a plot of land acquired 40 years earlier from Agnès and Pernelle de Beiguec, two ladies who evidently had no heirs. Jean de Badevillain claims, on the contrary, that he holds the land by virtue of tribute paid to Louis Savathé, Marguerite Thibaud's predecessor. In the settlement between the parties, each agrees to function alternately as lord and as vassal to the other with respect to certain plots of land. The two plots ceded to Marguerite are on the road from Usson-du-Poitou to Bouresse, next to Beiguec. The document is written in Chancery script on parchment, with two black seals on pendants attached.
