American Can Company coffee publicity materials
Content Description
Aluminum can containing a "carousel" holding seven glass vials, each with a different type of coffee. The can was sent out together with a printed portfolio in a cardboard mailing canister with a printed label, from the American Can Company, Home Economics Department, as a promotional and educational "coffee exhibit" intended to put coffee cans in front of school children, presumably to encourage potential future coffee drinkers. The small portfolio, titled "Coffee through the camera's lens," contains 16 loose leaves featuring photographs by Margaret Bourke-White, showing how coffee is produced in Brazil. Included are 11 reproductions of photographs by Margaret Bourke-White, a map of South America, and a sheet illustrating canned coffee, on loose sheets numbered 1-13 on verso. The remaining 3 sheets contain instructions for making coffee project books and 2 quizzes. There is also a postcard for requesting a booklet for adults.
