Biographical / Historical

John I. Shafer Jr. received a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College in 1933 and a PhD in Botany from Cornell University in 1936. He researched corn genetics and botany and chestnut blight at various institutions including Cornell University, the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station and the Unites States Plant, Soil and Nutrition Laboratory.
