Collection of posters, programs and photographs relating to Eisenstein's films "Alexander Nevsky" and "Ivan the Terrible". The printed material in this collection all derive from Czechoslovakia and from the immediate postwar releases of both films. The photographs, with Cyrillic captions, may have originated in the Soviet Union during the 1944 release of Ivan.

Biographical / Historical
Sergei Eisenstein was a Soviet Russian film director and film theorist. Eisenstein's film "Ivan the Terrible” had been released in the USSR in 1938, but it did not premiere in Czechoslovakia until after the Second World War, while Alexander Nevsky had been released in Russia during the War, in 1944, but was seen in Europe only in 1946.
