Content Description
Scrapbook of ephemera documenting Ruttershausen’s time at Cornell University. Includes newspaper clippings, photographs, programs, ticket stubs, correspondence, and other items. Include Acacia fraternity dance invitation, a portion of what appears to be a freshman beanie, a Felix Sited Spring Day button, Cornell University Athletic Association membership, Liberty Loan, an issues of the Cornell Deadly Run and the Cornell Mourning Male, a One mentioning a prank at Sigma Nu involving throwing toilet paper, a safety pin labeled “the first pin.” Programs include 1919 Kermis event, 1919 Bailey Hall organ recitals, Ithaca Night of the Cosmopolitan Club, Cornell Dramatic Club, 1920 Cosmopolitan Club Initiation Banquet, 1921 Junior Smoker, 1921 Baccalaureate Services, 14th and 15th Annual Acacia Banquet, 1921 Glee, Banjo and Mandolin Clubs Senior Week and Spring Day Concerts, 1921 College of Agriculture Banquet, Class of 1921 Freshman Banquet. Photographs of the 1919 “Hardly Fair” and Colonel Grand Hoax Hardly, this event was a fundraiser held at Barton Hall and notable as one of the first all campus events since before World War One. Also an issue of the Cornell Hardly Done. Other photographs include students in Roman garb presumably at Spring Day, Beebe Lake toboggan slide and ice skating, Cornell weather station, crew on Cayuga Lake including May 22, 1920 vs Harvard, track team, arts quad, mud rush, 1920 Cornell vs. Colgate, Union and Columbia football games, students, possibly Acacia fraternity brothers. Also a box of cigarettes labeled coffin nails with a skull and crossbones, a cigarette case from the 1918 Class of 1921 freshman banquet, a photo of Rittershausen and classmates in 1981 at their 60th Cornell reunion.
