Photo album of images mostly taken by Johnson during her time as a student at Cornell University, some with her Rollei. Camera. Photographs are well labeled. Many images were submitted for inclusion in the Cornellian yearbook and those that were selected are marked as such. Photographs include images of campus, faculty and classmates. Subjects of photographs include Risley Hall (Johnson’s freshman dorm), Lambda Chi, Theta Xi, Geology 102 class trip to Enfield stream, 1952-1954 Delta Delta Delta pledge classes, several images showing vehicles including a Pierce Arrow owned by Marina Ivanov-Rinov, Balch Hall (Johnson’s sophomore dorm), gorges and gorge swimming, Deane Waldo Malott presidential inauguration, 1952 Junior Week soapbox derby, carving the stone for Edmund Ezra Day Hall, sunbathing, golf, 1952 Spring Weekend (Spring Day) parade floats, Fillmore State Park, Beebe Lake swimming, 1952 Cornell Reunion, 1952 Cornell Navy football game, 1952 formal dance, Delta Delta Delta (Tridelt) house by Beebe Lake, studying and reserve desk of the main library (Uris Library), Robert Shaw Chorale concert at Bailey Hall, A. Sale, Professor Donald Lord Finlayson, Jane Gregory, Betty Wagler, Marcia Dale, Gale Briggs, Kandy Scholl, many photos of Delta Delta Delta members, also several photos of family members, most individuals are identified in the photos, not all names are listed here. Other locations include Huck’s Hidden Valley Farm, Oldwick New Jersey; many images of tombstones from the Old Granary Burying Ground in Boston that Johnson used for a paper on epitaphs, Richard David Chalfant and Joan Dunham Taylor wedding and honeymoon photos from Williamsburg Inn and surrounding Virginia area, 1954 Lehigh commencement, Johnson and Gottling’s wedding Belmont Massachusetts and honeymoon in Somerset Bermuda, Donald Hicks Richards and Joan Arden Schmeckpepper wedding Floral Park Long Island.

Biographical / Historical

Barbara Ann Johnson Gottling graduated from Cornell University in 1954 with an AB from Arts and Sciences. She was married to Philip F. Gottling Jr, member of the Cornell Class of 1952. At Cornell she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and was involved with the Cornellian and Women’s Student Government Association.
