Biographical / Historical

Michael Whittaker was a publicist for SST Records, an American independent record label formed in 1978 in Long Beach, California by musician Greg Ginn of Black Flag. SST would release all Black Flag's records until the band split up in 1986. SST was one of the more influential of the American independent record labels of the 1980s, releasing not only hardcore punk music, but also albums that were instrumental in the development of American alternative rock, such as those by the Meat Puppets, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, and Dinosaur Jr.
