Items collected by Dr. Post deriving from his medical volunteership in the Civil War, include a diary kept for 1862 describing cases, soldiers, and events; also a medical surgeon's instrument kit, pieces of shrapnel, a piece of hard tack, photographs of Post and his parents, the Soldier's Pocket Book of inspirational writing, mess kit cutlery, and correspondence; some items include annotated notes; also, ephemeral items such as an awl and twine, a bar of soap in a tin box, and two cigars.
