Biographical / Historical

Ann Silsbee received her BA in Music from Radcliffe in 1951, her MS in Music from Syracuse University in 1969, and her Doctorate in composition from Cornell University in 1979. A pianist and composer, she wrote musical works in several genres, and is believed to be the first woman to have received a doctorate in composition from Cornell's Department of Music. She was also a poet and a painter, and the wife of Cornell physicist Robert Silsbee.
