Scope and content
Three portfolios and loose items documenting Brinckerhoff's work as a landscape architect. The items include mostly photographs, but also development plan drawings for projects. The photographs show the completed work including gardens, trees, fountains, water features, waterfalls, sculpture, as well as the exteriors of the buildings on the properties.The portfolios are numbered. Biographical / Historical
Arthur Freeman Brinckerhoff was a landscape architect known for his work on a number of prominent estates in the Northeast. He was a 1902 graduate of Cornell University receiving a degree in architecture. At Cornell he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He returned to Cornell in 1924 and gave an address at the laying of the cornerstone of Willard Straight Hall as he had been a friend of Willard. He received the Gold Medal of the Architectural League of New York in 1920 and was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. His contributions included the New York World's Fair in 1939 and the estates Victor Emmanuel, Mrs. Payne Whitney, John Hay Whitney.
