Sue Savage-Rumbaugh is a psychologist and primatologist whose research is focused on primate language acquisition. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in 1973 and was awarded honorary doctorates from the University of Chicago in 1997 and Missouri State University in 2008. She is primarily known for her work with bonobos investigating their linguistic and cognitive abilities. From 1982-2005, her research was based based at Georgia State University's Language Research Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and she worked at the Iowa Primate Learning Sanctuary in Des Moines, Iowa from 2005 until 2013.
