James Brattle Burbank items
Scope and content
Newspaper clippings, mainly from the Cornell Era and Ithaca Journal, include several relating to the new Gymnasium and Military Hall (the Armory), which Major Burbank was instrumental in obtaining for the Cornell students, and to the improvement of the Military Department under his leadership, and also include one letter, June 3, 1880, from Burbank to the Era editors concerning a recent instance of dishonesty in college athletics. Also a copy of the words to a song, "When We First Saw the Major," which its author John Bunyan Potter (Class of 1874) dedicated in 1871 to Burbank, with a covering letter, December 11, 1945 from Henry P. de Forest, Life Secretary of the Class of 1884, to Capt. C. W. Wildrick of New York City, Burbank's nephew, and the program for the senior banquet of the Class of 1883, inscribed to Burbank by one of the participants.
