Scope and content

The collection documents the efforts of Def and his friends and band mates to cultivate and support an emerging local Hip Hop scene in North Austin. It contains 36 flyers, 110 handbills (including duplicates), 12 business cards, 46 photographs, 7 original paste-up designs for flyers, four letters, newspapers clippings, a RUN-DMC poster, and press information for late 1980s rap groups in Austin, Texas. Bands and groups represented include Rockmaster K.J., Horse Thief, The Loud Posse, Street Boys, M.C. Cool Pop, Pervs World, DJ Def, and Bad Mutha Goose.

Biographical / Historical

J.T. Def formed a label called E.J. Recordings while attending Lanier High School in Austin, Texas. He was also a member of a local Hip Hop crew called Loud Posse.
