Scope and content

Two versions of the sculpture "3-D StyleWriter," also known as "The StyleWriter," one in red anodized aluminum, the other in polished stainless steel. The stainless steel version was included in the exhibition "Mare139 Structural Interventions," 2011, shown in photographs on the artist's Facebook page. Also, portfolio titled "The Art of the B-Boy," consisting of 30 original drawings from the "Physical Graffiti: Art of the B-Boy" dance exhibition held at the Skalizers Gallery, Berlin, in 2012. Charcoal on newsprint. Associated material includes 3 exhibition posters and 2 show flyers, along with an "Art of the B-Boy" concept portfolio, bound in cardboard. Other material: one 1XRUN limited edition print, a collaboration with DMC (Darryl McDaniels) in 2014 (print #36 of 75), and 1 Red Bull Beat Battle promotional postcard pack, produced in 2007, containing 8 cards.

Biographical / Historical

American artist who first won fame as a subway graffiti writer, known as Mare139, in New York City in the late 1970s-early 1980s. He then went on to incorporate graffiti-writing style into sculpture, and after the mid-1980s he added Constructivist, Futurist, and Cubist ideas to his work. He designed and created the award for the annual BET/Black Entertainment Awards show, the 2005 and 2007 Red Bull Beat Battle Award, and more recently, the SPY Award for the 30th anniversary of the Rock Steady Crew.
