Reports and manuscripts on the Library

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: 2-6-1544

Scope and content

Reports and manuscript statements on the current state of the Library and proposed improvements, dating from 1905, 1929, and 1934, together with a few accompanying letters. Includes a "Report of the Committee to Administer the Library to the Department of Buildings and Grounds on changes and new construction," written by Charles H. Hull, 1929; an unsigned typewritten reaction by Hull to G.W. Harris's printed leaflet "Some points to be noted," 1905 (with a pencilled note by Hull reading, "Upon consideration I did not distribute this"); manuscript notes and diagrams by Hull; a letter to Hull from architect F.S. Benedict, 1929; and a lengthy typewritten manuscript by Hull on the state of the Library, with a cover letter from Hull to Cornell University Provost A.R. Mann and Mann's letter of thanks to Hull, 1934. Major issues discussed in these reports and manuscripts include the need for more space and controversy over proposals to expand Library access for undergraduates.
