Biographical / Historical

Schoellkopf Field, the major field for athletic events at Cornell University, was completed in 1915. As the University grew and attendance at athletic events increased, the need arose for a larger seating area. In 1924, with the completion of the concrete stadium then known as the "Crescent" on the east side of the field, Schoellkopf's seating capacity increased from 9,000 to about 21,500. The seating capacity was further increased in 1947 by the addition of permanent steel fixtures on the west side of the field, expanding the seating to its current capacity of 25,597.

Biographical / Historical

Civil engineer Gavin Hadden designed the Crescent, and Romeyn Berry was the Graduate Manager of Athletics at Cornell when the Crescent was built.
