Cornell University Alumni and Admission Center architectural model

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: 8550

Scope and content

Early working model of the proposed Alumni and Admission Center at Cornell University (unbuilt), in which several iterations of the design are visible by interchanging parts of the model. The proposed complex is situated on opposite sides of Fall Creek at the northern end of the original campus. It includes a four-story reception building on the northern face of the gorge and a four-story administrative wing situated on the opposite bank. The reception building faces the main public approach to the campus from the north and east and was designed to accommodate undergraduate admissions offices, seminar rooms, and a cafeteria, grouped around a four-story high Great Hall that looks south over the falls. The administrative building was designed to house the central administration, alumni, development, and university council offices. The buildings are connected by a pedestrian walkway, and a stepped promenade leads down to a viewing platform facing the falls. Collection also includes digital prints of the final context plan and site plan, as well as digital prints of photographs of the final model.
