Biographical / Historical

Before 1965, the Chemistry Department at Cornell had its own library in Baker Laboratory, and the Physics Library was a separate unit in Rockefeller Hall, focusing on astronomy and physics. In the summer of 1965, the two collections were integrated and moved into the new Clark Hall, becoming the foundation for the Physical Sciences Library.

Stephen A. McCarthy was the Director of Cornell University Library; Giles F. Shepherd was Assistant Director for Public Services for the Library; R.L. Sproull was Chairman of the Building Committee; Mary Thomas was Librarian of the Physics Library; and Arthur C. Kulp was the Facilities Coordinator for Cornell University Library.
