Scope and content
Scrapbook of newspaper clippings on mechanical engineering topics. Many of the articles focus on the investigation following the explosion of the Westfield, including testimony and reports of various engineers, including a report by Thurston himself. Several other articles describe the exhibits at the Vienna International Exhibition of 1873. In creating the scrapbook, Thurston reused a ledger from the firm R.L. Thurston & Co. (1842-1844), which did engine repairs and related work for its customers. About half of the original ledger remains visible; the rest is hidden beneath the glued-in newspaper articles of the later scrapbook.
