Scope and content
Printed Director's reports on the Sibley College of Mechanical Engineering (1885-1887), scrapbooks of newspaper and magazine clippings on the College and Thurston's statements and activities (1874-1902), and plans drawn by students for courses offered in the College on forging and machines (1889-1891). Also, an enlarged version of the cover of Scientific American, October 17, 1885, with wood engravings showing the interior and exterior of Sibley College and surrounding scenery on the Cornell campus. Interior scenes include the foundry and the drafting room. An additional enlarged illustration from Scientific American (September 17, 1885) depicts "the great tangent galvanometer at Cornell University."

Robert Henry Thurston was a professor of mechanical engineering at Cornell, and served as the Director of the Sibley College of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanic Arts.
