Scope and content

Press clippings, reports, minutes, and correspondence concerning proposed revisions to the University calendar, including information on changes made to the calendars of other universities, and comments from Cornell administrators, faculty, and students. Topics include the effects of proposed calendar changes on: students, faculty, Cornell's athletic teams, conferences hosted by the University, the observance of religious holidays, the resolution of student academic status issues from the previous semester, and other considerations.

Biographical / Historical

The Special Committee on the University Calendar was a faculty committee appointed to consider changes in Cornell's academic calendar. The committee considered options such as shifting from a semester system to a trimester system or the quarter system; beginning classes earlier in September and finishing the fall semester before the holidays in December; and others.
