Scope and content
The card catalog of the Loy McCandless Marks Botanical Library as it existed in 1981. The catalog reproduced here covers about 90% of the material ultimately collected by Ms. Marks before her death in 1995, including journal articles, drawings, and periodicals as well as books. This copy of the catalog is annotated with markings comparing each title with the library holdings at Cornell University as of 1996. A listing of the rare titles is followed by a listing of the rest of the titles in the collection (totaling nearly 5,000 titles).

Biographical / Historical
Over the course of her life, in consultation with Hawaii botanists, Loy McCandless Marks assembled an exceptional collection of 5,000 illustrated botanical works, with an emphasis on tropical and subtropical botany and horticulture. In 1997, the collection was acquired from her estate by the National Tropical Botanical Garden on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. The NTBG's entire library of over 20,000 books, journals, botanical prints, and archival materials is now named the Loy McCandless Marks Botanical Library in her honor.
