Scope and content

Typewritten fair copy (bound) and lightly edited drafts of the manuscript, together with related pamphlets and reprints of articles on the chemical laboratory and the chemical engineering building at Cornell, and a volume published in honor of the 25th anniversary of the American Chemical Society in 1902. The manuscript includes biographical information on many Cornell faculty.

Emile M. Chamot and Fred H. ("Dusty") Rhodes were chemistry faculty at Cornell University. Chamot was very influential in the establishment of the Baker Laboratory of Chemistry at Cornell; Rhodes contributed greatly to the formation of the School of Chemical Engineering, and served as its first Director. After retiring in 1938, Professor Chamot researched and wrote a history of Cornell's Department of Chemistry, whose manuscript was nearly finished when he died. Professor Rhodes completed Chamot's account through 1938, and added to it a history of the School of Chemical Engineering up to 1957, the year of his retirement.
