Allan H. Treman was the son of Robert H. and Mary McLallan Treman. He attended Cornell University (Class of 1921) and was a lawyer, law teacher, and counsel to Cornell University. He was an active public figure in Ithaca and Tompkins County, New York.

The Big Red Barn originally was the barn behind Andrew Dickson White's house on the Cornell campus. Allan H. Treman spearheaded the fundraising for a project to renovate the barn and turn it into an alumni center.
