Biographical / Historical

Compulsory military drill for all Cornell University students was still in effect as of 1931, but had become very unpopular. The Faculty Conference Committee on Military Training was formed to investigate the issue of military training for students and the possibility of making the training elective. The work of the Faculty Conference Committee was overseen by Charles K. Burdick, Dean of the Law School.
